Does interpretaion tell me wether what I have here is a genuine case of seeing, or one of interpretation after all? First of all I must make clear to myself what I should call an interpretation; how to tell wether something is to be called a case of interpretation or of seeing.
(Ludwig Wittgenstein, English Translation from Zettel, University of California Press, 2007)

Fictional human facial features become articulated traces of memory – first a drawing and, consequently, an image. Generations of anonymous individual portraits are generated from a canon of forms created in several phases from linear, sign-like elements that are disassembled or assembled in repeated and altered rhythms. Through the elemental similarities – reshaped in their emptiness and nakedness – apparent affinities and a collective congruence emerge.

The installation, consisting of 25 objects (each with two transparent portraits from the 2015/23 series of works fixed on top of each other) presents itself in correspondence with the local spatial situation and becomes a theater, a staging of a convention. Thereby, the descrapancy between the “in front“ and the “behind“ of the protagonists in their various individual states of mind and in their inner and outside worlds offers an extended range for introspection.
